Could God Really be Real?
by Brother Dave
If you don't have time to read the many excellent books that document the overwhelming evidence for God and Christianity, the above video by Dr. William Lane Craig, courtesy www.leestrobel.com, is a good scholarly summary on the issue. There is a lot of articulate vocabulary in this video, but don't let that intimidate you. Instead, focus on the big picture message. God is real, God created you, and God is an unfathomably powerful, personal God.
Ever wonder if it's possible to know beyond a reasonable doubt if God is real? Ever wonder why many (honest) atheists ended up becoming Christians after trying their best to debunk the God of the Bible? The reason is that the evidence is abundant and clearly obvious--except to a biased, prejudiced or closed mind.
Hi, I'm brother Dave and if you're analytical, logical and evidence oriented like me, it might take some research--and prayer--to discover God. I spent two years researching and analyzing information on the Bible and different religions. Despite all that research and analysis, it took several supernatural events to finally convince me of God's reality. The funny thing is, I now realize the evidence for God was all around me. Heck, it was even looking back at me everytime I shaved. Take my advice, start your quest for God by closely examining the world around you. If you are honest, you will have to admit that the only rational explanation for the majestic intricacies of our world and universe is the existence of a creative God. Any unbiased scientist who looks at the nature of matter, the complexity of DNA, or the harmony of physical laws cannot but concede the reality of an intelligent designer, God. The evidence for God is abundant, the question is: are you open-minded and unbiased in your attitude toward the reality of God? If so, you will find a loving and merciful God who desperately loves you.
On the other hand, some people have a distorted view of God. They have created God in their own image. These people will have problems seeing the truth clearly. Unconsciously, many mistakenly believe that their Creator could only work in their lives the way they think He should. Translation: all their prayers are immediately answered according to their specifications; nothing unpleasant ever happens to them or their loved ones; no one ever breaks their heart, and so on. Because God has not worked in their lives the way they want Him to, these people decide that God either does not exist or that He is taking pleasure in their sufferings. In the first case, these people tend to become atheists or agnostics. In the later case, these people turn away from their heavenly father in anger and hurt. Both of these mindsets lead to an irrational bias against the overwhelming evidence for a loving, merciful God.
In between the above extremes are people like I used to be. Prior to realizing the truth about God, I pretty much had the attitude "It's a nice idea but I don't really know and have no pressing desire to find out." But then God began to deal with me in response to prayer by two Christian associates of mine. I began thinking about this "eternity" concept they introduced me to. I was used to thinking in terms of days, weeks, months, and years, but eternity? That was difficult to conceive of. Nonetheless, because these men were sincere and passionately convinced of what they were telling me, I realized I couldn't afford to be wrong on this question of God. I thought, "I'm an outstanding legal analyst (and humble too!) so I should be able to easily prove or disprove the reality of God." As mentioned earlier, I ended up spending two years of my off-work life investigating this mysterious and elusive so-called 'God of the universe' relying solely on human intellectual prowess.
Finally, realizing that this search could take a lifetime at it's current pace, I took the advice of my friends and began praying sincerely for God's help in figuring out if He was real. That's the invitation He was waiting for! Within a week, Jesus Christ had revealed Himself to me. Understandly, it was difficult for me to believe that the King of Kings would take time out from His busy schedule to have a word with me.
"OK", I thought, "I'm either losing my mind, I've been reading way too much of the Bible, or the Bible is true, God is faithful, Jesus really does love me and He actually was concerned enough about me to meet with me personally." I spent the next week evaluating the various possibilities. Once I was personally convinced that I had not conjured up this divine encounter, the next step was obvious. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.
Each individual will have a unique experience when they come to recognize the reality of the Gospel. Hopefully, you will avoid the long drawn out journey I took. Hopefully, you will intuitively recognize an awesome loving God in all of creation. If so, you just saved yourself a lot of research and headaches. On the other hand, if you need some help (like I did), there are several good books that will be invaluable to the skeptical mind. I would recommend you start out with "The Case for Faith" by New York Times bestselling author, Lee Strobel. This book is conveniently located in our Christian resource section.
The One True Faith
After resolving the question of God's existence, the next logical question is: Of all the world religions, which one is the "true religion." Fortunately, both of these questions were resolved simultaneously for me. Because of my research, I knew there were literally hundreds of "belief systems" around the world; all pretty much mutually exclusive and intolerant of competing belief systems. What was an unchurched agnostic (like me at the time) to do? When Jesus revealed Himself to me (as stated earlier), I decided to ask Him. His answer was simple and to the point:"It is not about a religion, it is about a personal relationship with Me."
So, contrary to popular belief, there is no "true religion." The secret to a spiritually successful human life is simply about growing a relationship with Jesus Christ. Bible based Christianity--not any one religion or denomination--is the one and only true faith. It is also the one and only belief system with a founder who died, rose from the dead and is alive right now! In fact, Christianity stands or falls on this one historical truth---that is how important the resurrection is! No other belief system is so audacious as to suggest that their founder died, resurrected and is alive right now.
In closing, I encourage you with all my heart to sincerely answer the questions of God's reality and where you stand in relation to eternity. Eternity is a long, long time! If you are ready to make your reservations for eternity with Jesus Christ in paradise (or just curious) follow the "...paradise" link below. It will answer most questions a person might have.
Before you click on the "Paradise" link below, you may want to take a moment to click on the below Jesus.net link. This link shows you in "real time" (i.e. right now!) people all over the world who are making the decision to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior (if possible, install the Google 3-D version offered at the site and prepare for a fascinating experience!) According to Jesus.net, someone is accepting Jesus through one of their sites about every minute!! Since Jesus.net only documents a fraction of decisions for Jesus, that means that someone is accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior at least every 15 seconds or less worldwide!! Will YOU be next?
